A Perth butcher has sparked controversy with a cheeky social media post in which he said he bought one of his products ‘straight from the petting zoo’.
Swansea Street Family Butcher, based in East Victoria, used Facebook this week to promote that it had a limited supply of baby goats.
“Have you ever been to a petting zoo and wondered what these animals you feed (sic) taste like?,” the post read.
‘Well, now’s your chance, straight from the petting zoo to our back door, bottle-fed baby goats weighing around 10kg for just $15kg.
‘While supplies last.
“See if love and endless hugs make your food taste better.”

The post caused a stir online, with one person describing it as a ‘disgusting way to advertise’.
Others said it was ‘too much’ and a ‘sick way to advertise meat’.
In response, the store owners limited comments on the post to people who had followed the page for more than 24 hours.

However, the post also received people praising the butcher for being transparent about where they source their meat.
“If you can’t handle recognizing that your flesh was once an animal, then don’t eat meat. Simple. If you eat it, respect it,” one person said.
Others described it as ‘marketing genius’, the ‘best advert’ they had seen on Facebook, while another said: ‘yum, I’ll take two for the spit’.
