Perth bushfire: Map shows where ferocious blaze threatens lives and homes
Perth residents have been warned it is too late to leave their homes as a fast-moving, out-of-control bushfire spreads in two northern suburbs.
An emergency warning has been issued for parts of Melaleuca and Jandabup in Wanneroo, about 36km north of the city centre.
“It’s too late to leave for people east of Hawkins Road,” the Department of Fire and Emergency Services said Wednesday.

“You are in danger and must act immediately to survive.”
The fire started near the intersection of the Border and Step roads in Mariginiup.
It is moving rapidly westward and is not contained or controlled.
“You should take shelter in your home in a room away from the fire front and ensure you can easily escape,” emergency services said.
“You must take shelter before the fire breaks out because the extreme heat will kill you long before the flames reach you.”
Meanwhile, a bushfire in Perth’s south has weakened, but local residents have been warned to remain alert.

A warning remains in effect for parts of Hammond Park, about 20 miles south of the city.
Earlier on Wednesday, an emergency warning was in place for the suburb, along with Aubin Grove and Wattleup.
The fire started near the intersection of the busy Kwinana Freeway and Rowley Rd.
The fire initially closed the highway, but has now reopened.
Western Australia is experiencing a temperature spike, with the mercury topping 37 degrees Celsius on Wednesday and expected to reach 40 degrees Celsius on Thursday.
No relief from the heat is expected for Monday.
