A teenager has died tragically in hospital just days after being allegedly beaten with a metal pipe by a group of men now being hunted by police.

Cassius Turvey (15) was walking home from school with three friends in Middle Swan, Perth, on October 13, when a car pulled up next to them.

The three men in the vehicle reportedly began racially abusing the schoolboys, accusing them of smashing car windows. They then allegedly got out of the car armed with a machete and a metal pipe, before telling the children to ‘run’.

While Cassius’s friends were hiding in a nearby TAFE, the 15-year-old was reportedly caught by the group violently attacking him.

He suffered serious head injuries and spent five days in the hospital before being discharged. However, just hours after he left, he suffered a seizure and two strokes and was rushed back. He then died on Sunday.

Cassius’ mother asks the public for help identifying the men, but only one has been arrested: Jack Steven James Brearley.

The 21-year-old was initially charged with unlawful injury for his alleged role in the attack, but appeared before the Midland Magistrate’s Court on Monday, where the charges were upgraded to murder.

“I’m devastated with my son…for no reason, I’ve lost him,” said Mother, Michelle Turvey.

“I am just shocked by some of the violence that is happening in our communities. It doesn’t matter whether these young children are black or white.’

Ms Turvey said Cassius identified two other men to police before he died and revealed the terrifying details of his final moments.

“My son identified two people from photos the night he was first admitted and gave those photos to detectives,” she said.

“Just minutes after Cassius was attacked, while trying to call his family to warn us of what had happened, he heard another child screaming and it was on the next street.”

His mother claims the men also attacked another Aboriginal schoolboy who was walking on crutches.

Mrs Turvey’s husband tragically died just a month before her son, after a two-year battle with cancer.

A GoFundMe page has been set up to help the family as nearly $12,000 has been raised so far.

Tributes have been posted by friends and family for Cassius on social media.

“Cassius Turvey, the most loving and caring person I have ever known,” wrote one man.

“You were taken from us too soon. Cassius, and my heart is so heavy now that you’re gone.’

“Rest in paradise, my little soldier, sorry,” a friend said. “Incredibly shattered, the life of this beautiful soul (was) cut way too short.”
