Thousands of passengers have been evacuated from Perth Airport, sparking widespread chaos and outrage.

The airport has confirmed that a ‘minor’ kitchen fire in one of the terminals has triggered a state of emergency, forcing everyone outside.

A spokeswoman said the fire has since been extinguished and passengers will soon be able to re-enter the terminal.

“Delays for some departing flights are expected.”

The incident has also caused delays to arriving flights with passengers trapped on planes grounded on the tarmac.

“Perth airport has been evacuated because there was fire/smoke and my mother and sister are stuck on the plane and were told they couldn’t get out,” said one woman.

Photos show long lines of travelers waiting outside the terminal.

“We would be HOURS #sendwine here,” one man tweeted.
