Personal Trainer Shares Little-Known Details About Grated Cheese – And Why She Won’t Buy It: ‘I Thought Everyone Knew This’

An Australian personal trainer has revealed why you should choose block cheese over grated cheese when shopping.

Danni Duncan, founder of the workout app Fit by the Figure, shocked thousands of people when she shared a little-known difference between the two products.

While Danni at her local supermarket set an example by comparing the ingredients in two forms of Devondale mozzarella cheese.

The block version contains pasteurized milk, starter cultures of milk, salt and non-animal rennet. The grated version contains the same ingredients but also has anti-caking agent 460 and preservative 200.

The anti-caking agent 460 prevents the cheese from sticking together after it has been shredded, while the preservative 200 stops yeast growth.

Personal trainer Danni Duncan said pre-shredded cheese contains two added preservatives that prevent the cheese from sticking together and stop yeast growth

‘I know some people say, “I’ll get the grated one because it’s easier and it’s exactly the same.” Wrong,” Danni said in a now-viral video.

‘See this? Not the same, because if you grate your own cheese, it will stick together. They need to make something that doesn’t stick together and that lasts longer.

‘When something is no longer in its natural form, it begins to spoil. So yes, grate your own cheese.’

Danni said it’s best to buy block cheese to avoid the preservatives added to shredded cheese, which can lead to intestinal problems.

Danni told FEMAIL she thought this was ‘obvious’.

“The reality is that most people don’t know what is in their food and there is increasing research today on the short and long term effects of preservatives and additives in the food we consume,” she said.

‘From behavioral problems in children to links to chronic diseases and causing intestinal problems and links to poor mental health.

‘The less of this we can consume the better – it’s as simple as turning the pack over and reading the ingredients list – if you don’t understand what something is or if there are numbers then stay away. Choosing whole foods is always best for your health in the short and long term.’

Her clip has since captured the attention of the masses and has been viewed over 400,000 times.

More than 500 comments were left, but opinions were conflicting.

One person agreed with her point, saying, “Make your own cheese.”

‘Both are organic compounds that are safe for consumption. It is completely unnecessary to spread fear about them,” said another.

A third added: “Okay, but I can’t pop a handful of this in my mouth at 3am when I need a little snack.”

Another joked: ‘What I hear is that I get free stuff with the grated cheese.’
