Perrie Edwards reveals moment she almost quit Little Mix after ‘crying her eyes out’ to her manager: ‘I was so terrified and uncomfortable’

Perrie Edwards has revealed she almost quit Little Mix in the early days of the band’s formation.

During an appearance on The Jonathan Ross Show – which airs on Saturday – the 30-year-old singer admitted that when she first joined the group, she was “terrified” of dancing and felt very uncomfortable.

During one of the early rehearsals, Perrie was left in tears and told her manager that she could not dance and would have to leave the pop group.

Looking back on the early days of promoting her debut single Forget About Us, she said: “In the band, we would go to rehearsals at the very beginning, and I remember bawling my eyes out.

‘And I went to my manager: “I’m going to have to leave the band. I can’t really dance, I don’t want to dance.” I was so scared and uncomfortable dancing that I just didn’t want to do it; I just wanted to stand and sing.”

Ultimately, Perrie turned her fear into a passion and said she now loves dancing and would love to go on shows like Strictly Come Dancing.

Little Mix – made up of Jade Thirlwall, 31, Perrie and Leigh-Anne Pinnock, 32 – officially split in December 2021.

Jesy Nelson, 32, was originally a member but decided to leave the group in December 2020 after citing a decline in her mental health.

Perrie, who was joined on the show by Johannes Radebe, Frank Skinner and Aisling Bea, admitted it felt ‘bizarre’ appearing on the show without her bandmates.

She said: ‘It’s really bizarre not having them with me, it feels completely different.

“I think this was just the right time to split up, do our own thing and I just want them to win, so it’s nice to see them doing their own thing too.”

Since the band members decided to go their separate ways, many have enjoyed flourishing solo careers and now Perrie has decided to get in on the action.

The South Shields-born singer-songwriter, who signed with Columbia Records last year, launched her solo material in February.

She used a brand new Perrie HQ Instagram account to announce the news and tease music clips.

On Instagram Stories, Perrie added: ‘Hey everyone, welcome to Perrie HQ. This is run by my absolutely amazing team, and I’ll pop in every now and then if I can remember my password, you know how I am.

‘Make sure you come here for updates and all things moi! I love you.’

Speaking to Jonathan about her thoughts on going solo, Perrie said: ‘Terrified. It’s so different and it’s not what I’m used to.

‘I’ve been in Little Mix since I was 16, so I don’t know anything else, so it’s quite exciting, but I’m really enjoying it so far.’

Addressing the struggle of deciding what to call her album, Perrie said: ‘It’s really hard – I can’t think of anything. Everyone says: ‘Just call it Perrie’. It is difficult. Don’t know.’

Later, Jonathan asked Perrie about the possibility of Little Mix getting back together and Perrie joked: ‘I would definitely never say never. We just love each other so much.

“We thought we’d been together for 12 years since we were babies, and we just wanted to do our own thing and see what happens. We would certainly love to get together again in the future.”

The latest Jonathan Ross Show airs Saturday, April 13 ITV1 AND ITVX.
