The world went wild over David Beckham’s documentary of the same name, following his career and life with his wife Victoria and their four children.
And fellow footballer Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain revealed that both he and his pop star fiancee Perrie Edwards had been tuning into Netflix to watch the show – after whispers that they were in fact the ‘New Beckhams’.
Speaking to Athletic, the former Liverpool star, who signed with Turkish side Beşiktaş earlier this year, scoffed at the suggestion that they were like megastars: “I think they were a bit of a bigger deal than us.”
However, he noted that Perry’s glittering career in Little Mix makes her instantly recognizable – much like Spice Girl Victoria – while their long-distance relationship over his signing is similar to that between the Beckhams.
After watching Victoria talk about the struggles of moving around the world, Alex admitted he sympathized with the Beckhams’ struggles after being estranged from Perrie and their two-year-old son Axel.

Ha-ha! Speaking to Athletic, the former Liverpool star, who signed with Turkish side Beşiktaş earlier this year, scoffed at the suggestion that they were like megastars: “I think they were a bit of a bigger deal than us.”
Speaking about the documentary, Alex said: “I thought it was amazing. It really opened my eyes. Even as a footballer, knowing how things can be, I didn’t realize how far Beckham had gone…
“Even Perry was looking at him.” She loves Posh Spice (Victoria Beckham).’
Perrie rose to fame on The X Factor in 2011 when Little Mick was formed and the group went on to achieve 19 top ten singles and five number ones on the UK Singles Chart, before going on hiatus in 2022.
Given Perrie’s success in Little Mick, Alex admitted she’s famous everywhere they go, saying: ‘People recognize her and know who she is. It’s not like when we’re at home or in France or Italy or other countries, but she’s definitely famous here.’
Alex revealed that Perry and Axel flew to and from Istanbul to stay with him and that the whole family took a trip to the Turkish Riviera last week when he got some time off during the international break.
He admits the distance is the hardest part for them: “But even when I was in Liverpool, they would often come for a week and come back for two weeks because Perry has to work in London a lot of the time.”
In Beckham’s documentary, Victoria shed light on the pains of moving when David resigned – including stints in Spain and America.

Alex continued: “There were elements I could relate to,” he says. “Perrie could also take in a lot, traveling back and forth and filming while taking care of our boy.”
“Now he talks a lot and is a bit more involved at two and a bit, so he starts to wonder where I am and what I’m doing, but he’s slowly getting the hang of it.”
“But these are the sacrifices you have to make for your future and the future of your family.” They realized that this (Besiktas) is the best opportunity for me to tick everything I need to tick and come to play football…
“They came here last week and it was like a little holiday for us. We do it.’
