Period drama dubbed ‘one of the best series of 2024’ brutally axed – as fans rage ‘my worst fear has come true!’
The historical romance My Lady Jane has been pulled from Amazon Prime Video after just one season.
The historical TV series follows the life of Lady Jane Grey, who is crowned queen overnight and becomes the target of criminals who want to get her throne and head.
The big-budget series, starring Emily Bader, 27, as the title role of Lady Jane, is based on a series of young adult novels by Gemma Burgess.
However, those hoping for a resolution to Lady Jane’s story will be disappointed, as Amazon has decided not to renew the series for a second season.

Historical romance My Lady Jane has been ‘cancelled’ by Amazon Prime Video after just one season
The historical TV series follows the life of Lady Jane Grey, who is unexpectedly crowned queen and becomes the target of criminals who want to seize her throne and head.
Although the show was cancelled after just one season, it was well received by fans and The guard described it as ‘happy bananas’ while Forbes called the show “one of the best shows of 2024.”
However, the series did not generate the viewing figures Prime Video had hoped for, as the series failed to make it into Neilsen’s Top 10 streaming charts.
Amazon Prime Video broke the news on Saturday, and viewers expressed their disappointment via X, formerly known as Twitter.
One viewer was furious: ‘Amazon cancelling My Lady Jane?? They just hate fun, whimsy, they hate historical romance with an emphasis on drama, they hate enemies turned lovers where one is literally a horse, they hate silliness!!!’; ‘I can’t stop thinking about My Lady Jane being cancelled, this is my worst fear coming true.’
‘RIP My Lady Jane, you will forever be in my heart.’; ‘THEY CANCELLED MY LADY JANE???? I immediately went ballistic because what do you mean you’re not reviving the perfect camp romance??’
The series made a big impression on viewers for its adversarial dynamic between Jane and Guilford, with many fans praising their on-screen chemistry and romance.
However, the couple’s aggressive flirtation ended with a steamy sex scene in which Jane lost her virginity to Guilford.
The news of the series’ cancellation leaves the character’s storyline on a frustrating cliffhanger, as series narrator Oliver Chris previously presumptuously announced that “the story isn’t over yet.”

However, it seems the narrator spoke too soon, as Lady Jane reigned for only one season.
My Lady Jane is inspired by the New York Times bestseller by American author Cynthia Hand.
Cynthia told Publishers Weekly, “I wanted to write a novel about Lady Jane Grey, a headstrong, bookish teenage girl in 16th-century England.”
‘She had the misfortune to become queen, but that was only for nine days. Then her head was chopped off.’
‘I’ve always enjoyed studying Jane Grey’s story in history, except for the ending. So I thought, “Hey, I’m a writer. I can give her a different ending.”‘

Ahead of its release, fans also seemed to have Bridgerton in mind, enthusiastically stating, “Another real costume show that’s actually a racy sex comedy. I’m all for it.”
Someone else commented on X: ‘Oh, enemies to lovers, you will always be loved by me.’; ‘: ‘I just saw a picture of a new series coming out on Prime at the end of June and I am TOO FULL.’; ‘I saw the trailer for ‘My Lady Jane’ last night and was completely blown away by it.’
According to What’s On Netflix, the latest episodes of Bridgerton have been viewed a whopping 45.1 million times in just four days after they hit Netflix worldwide.
Meanwhile, My Lady Jane ranked as the 99th most popular series online and the 5th most popular TV series on Amazon, according to Television Stats.
