Pep Guardiola responded with an X rating when asked if people like his Manchester City team.

City are in pole position to secure what could be their fourth consecutive Premier League title as they prepare to host West Ham on Sunday, on the final day of the season.

Guardiola’s team is two points ahead of Arsenal, which plays at home against Everton.

Despite their dominance, there is a feeling that Guardiola’s team are not universally popular, especially given that they are still under investigation for 115 charges for alleged breaches of the Premier League’s financial fair play rules.

However, Guardiola appeared uninterested in how outsiders view his team, insisting that all the other 19 clubs in the division would like to be in City’s position in the table going into the final round of matches.

Asked at his pre-match press conference what people think of City, Guardiola said: ‘F***. Don’t know. Do you like? Don’t know. So when people ask me sometimes for many years. What do people think about any topic? I don’t know what people think. I’m not going to knock on everyone’s door: ‘What do you think about it?’

‘It doesn’t matter how we play. Don’t know. To be honest, I don’t know. But it’s a fact: if you ask all the Premier League teams when we started the season, what would be the better position in the last game of the season? We are in the best position, that’s for sure.’

Ahead of City’s 2-0 win against Tottenham, Richard Keys claimed that if Guardiola’s team won the title for a fourth consecutive season it would come with an asterisk.

Speaking being into sportsKeys said, “The problem remains, it all comes with an asterisk.”

Reading out the allegations City face, Keys said: ’54 failures to provide accurate financial information between 2009-10 and 2018. 14 failures to provide accurate details for player and manager payments.

‘Five cases of non-compliance with UEFA rules, including Financial Fair Play 2013-14 to 17-18. Seven breaches of Premier League PSR rules, 2015, 16, 17, 18. 35 counts of failing to co-operate with Premier League investigations from December 2018 – that’s the charge.’

Meanwhile, Jamie Carragher has claimed City will never get the respect they deserve as they face 115 charges.

Carragher wrote in his column for The Telegraph: ‘Guardiola should be celebrated by both neutral and City fans for his brilliance. But whether he and his club like it or not, City will never escape the shadow of these allegations until they are dealt with. Years of legal wrangling still prevent the club from clearing its name.

“That’s what baffles me about this whole sordid business. When allegations are made against individuals or institutions with absolute certainty of their innocence, one would generally expect those involved to demand that they organize a hearing as soon as possible. Where is the statement from City expressing frustration or anger at the process taking so long?’

On the pitch, City have had another hugely impressive season in the Premier League, winning 27 of 37 games so far.

City have the chance to win the double this season as they take on rivals Manchester United at Wembley in the FA Cup final on May 25.
