Pep Guardiola has spoken out about his future at Manchester City, before making a big bet on his managerial future.

Guardiola, who has enjoyed great success since being appointed City boss in 2016, will see his current contract expire at the end of this season.

Roy Keane has suggested Guardiola should become England’s next manager, while the FA has yet to appoint a permanent successor to Gareth Southgate.

Much uncertainty remains over whether Guardiola will remain in charge at City.

Asked whether he has decided to become the next England manager, Guardiola told Che Tempo Che Fa: ‘That is not true. I’m Manchester City manager.’

However, Guardiola refused to rule anything out, saying: ‘I haven’t decided anything yet, anything can happen. So I don’t know’.

Guardiola further commented on his future at City amid continued uncertainty, saying: ‘I still have to think and decide what I want to do’.

During his time under City manager Guardiola, he won six Premier League titles, the Champions League, two FA Cups and four League Cups.

City currently sit second in the Premier League, one point behind leaders Liverpool.

Keane had claimed the FA should look to appoint Guardiola after interim boss Lee Carsley initially appeared to rule out him being Gareth Southgate’s permanent successor.

Keane said on ITV: ‘Go after Pep [Guardiola]go for the best. Pep’s contract expires this summer.

‘The FA must go for the best man, I don’t know whether finances will play a role in that.

‘If Lee (Carsley) is clearly governing himself, and he’s not interested, and that seems to be the noise coming out, then the FA better get to work and find the right man.’

Interim England manager Lee Carsley initially appeared to rule out taking the permanent job

Speaking to ITV, Carsley appeared to suggest he will not take the England job permanently.

Carsley said: ‘People will always try to make chips. I’m really in the middle of it.

“This is a job that a world-class, award-winning coach deserves, I’m still on my way to doing that.”

However, Carsley appeared to backtrack on those comments during his post-match press conference.

Asked if the interpretation that he had withdrawn from the race was wrong, Carsley said: ‘Absolutely.

‘I think it’s important that I do my best. It is a privilege to do this work. I feel very familiar. It’s a great job and whoever gets it will prove to be deserving of it.

Asked if he thought the permanent job was too early in his coaching career to take now, he said: “Absolutely not. I’ve tried to make it as clear as possible.

‘My assignment was three matches in the Nations League. The point I was trying to make is that it is one of the top jobs in the world and it deserves a top coach.

‘I find this job challenging in a good way.’
