Pep Guardiola touts dramatic stoppage time win over Fulham as ‘one of the best experiences’ his Man City side have ever had at the Etihad Stadium… after Erling Haaland’s 95th-MINUTE penalty sparked wild celebrations

  • Manchester City beat Fulham 2-1 thanks to a very late goal from Erling Haaland
  • Pep Guardiola called the win ‘one of the best experiences’ in the Etihad
  • City played 65 minutes with ten men after Joao Cancelo’s red card in the first half
  • Guardiola praised his side for being the ‘right amount’ of angry in the win

Pep Guardiola has said Manchester City’s 2-1 home win against Fulham is ‘one of the best experiences’ his side have ever had at the Etihad.

Manchester City took the lead early in the summer by signing Julian Alvarez, but were soon reduced to ten after Joaoo Cancelo was sacked.

Fulham equalized from the resulting penalty via Andreas Pereira, but the inevitable Erling Haaland gave his side all three points with a 95th-minute penalty, leaving Guardiola and the Etihad in trouble.

The Manchester City manager is usually known for his more serene way of coaching from the sidelines, but couldn’t hold back after the win.

The Spaniard danced up and down the Etihad pitch after the full-time whistle in a manner usually more associated with Jose Mourinho or Jurgen Klopp.

When he calmed down a bit after the game, Guardiola praised his players for their performance.

Guardiola said: ‘The way we played’ [the] 65 minutes was great, 10 against 11, at the right pace, more chances, more control, the personality’.

“Everyone played right, a certain amount of anger and disappointment for many reasons, we were there.”

The City boss continued: ‘It was really really good – one of the best experiences we’ve ever had here’

Guardiola admitted the task was made easier on his part by the absence of Fulham star man Aleksandar Mitrovic, but this will not affect his celebrations.

Following the win, City have risen to the top of the Premier League – one point away from Arsenal, who have yet to play this weekend.

Guardiola hopes his side will continue to perform at this level before they split up for the upcoming World Cup.
