People are all saying the same thing about Olympic Games star’s wife after he was slammed for ‘cruel’ public swipe at his partner

Basketball fans have been making jokes about Boomers star Jack McVeigh after Australia’s elimination from the Paris Olympics.

McVeigh, who has become known for sharing motivational messages on social media, came under fire earlier this week after he had an apparently “cruel” interaction with his wife following the Boomers’ opening-match defeat to Spain in Paris.

“I got mad at my wife after my first Olympics. ‘You are so talented,’ she said,” he tweeted.

Supportive and kind, right? Well, according to McVeigh, she missed the point.

“It’s not talent. It’s dedication,” I replied. “You may wear the Aussie uniform one day. But are you prepared to dedicate your whole life to trying?” he wrote.

Unfortunately, McVeigh was unable to offer his own words of encouragement as Australia lost in extra time to Serbia in the quarter-finals, failing to match their bronze medal from three years ago in Tokyo.

Some fans have therefore taken to X to ridicule the NBL star, who is set to move to the United States.

“I’m more nervous than Jack McVeigh’s wife trying to give a compliment right now,” one fan joked on X.

Another said: ‘I challenge Jack McVeigh to tweet after this game.’

“I wonder if Jack McVeigh’s wife is proud of him today?” a third fan asked.

“Can someone get Jack McVeigh’s wife to tell him he’s really worthless,” asked a fourth.

“Jack McVeigh is going to be so angry with his wife after this match,” joked a fifth.

Despite Wednesday morning’s disappointment, everything is going well for the 28-year-old, who married his wife Bethany this year.

McVeigh is one of the team’s most notable players and his great form earned him a contract with the NBA’s Houston Rockets.

He will compete against his national teammate Josh Giddey, who plays for the Chicago Bulls.

But Giddey was extremely disappointed after the loss.

Giddey couldn’t hold back his tears after falling in Paris.

“We put ourselves in a great position to win that game. And we come up so short in overtime. So it’s heartbreaking,” Giddey said.

“And it hurts me that I have to wait four more years for another chance. But man, I’m so proud of this group. I love this team. And you know, our coaches, our fans, they deserved so much better than this.

“I don’t really know how to sum it up right now. It’s so raw and right after the game. But you know, I just love this team. And I believed we had the group to go all the way.

“We have to wait four more years and this feeling sucks and it’s going to hurt, but you know, it’s going to build us up. And we’re going to be back in LA (2028 Olympics).”
