People have picked up a link between Elf and Barbie despite films being released 20 YEARS apart
Could there be a deeper connection between Will Farrell's appearance in Elf, The Lego Movie, and Barbie? TikTok certainly thinks so.
Film enthusiast Ivan Mars posted a thought-provoking clip on TikTok, suggesting there's a wild link between the 2004 film Elf, the 2014 film The Lego and this year's blockbuster Barbie.
In the 40-second TikTok clip, which has been viewed more than 6.8 million times, Ivan points out that he was “years old today” when he realized that “Elf is connected to other famous films.”
“So Buddy the elf learns to build toys. But wait, what if, after he realizes he loves Lego, he becomes a collector?' says the voiceover on the clip, referencing Farrell's character in the 2014 film The Lego Movie.

Ivan then says “wait for the best part,” pointing out the connection between Elf, The Lego Movie, and Barbie.
“As an elf he also built dolls,” says Ivan.
'Possibly [Will Farrell’s character] becomes the CEO of a doll manufacturing company,” he says.
“This means that these three films are set in the same universe,” he says triumphantly.
TikTok users couldn't believe the connection between the films,
“I made the Lego Movie connection, but I completely forgot about the Barbie movie,” one surprised follower commented.
“The Will Ferrel multiverse,” cheered another.
“What about Santa 3, they have a baby named buddy,” wrote an enthusiastic TiKTok follower.

For some users it was all too much.
“Haha, I'm done with the internet,” said the irritated user.
In Elf, Will Farrell plays a human who was accidentally transported to the North Pole as a toddler and grew up among Santa's elves before heading to New York City to find his true love.
In The Lego Movie he plays The Man Upstairs, an avid Lego collector and Finn's father in the live-action part of the film. He also plays President Business in the hit 2014 film.

This isn't the first time fans have suggested there's a connection between The Lego Movie and Barbie.
In August, The Lego Movie directors Phil Lord and Christopher Miller discussed the fan theory after social media users suggested that Ferrell's role as CEO of Mattel in Barbie was actually the same character, President Business, from The Lego Movie.
The Lego Movie directors Phil Lord and Christopher Miller said the theory was “absolutely true.”
“Absolutely 100 percent true, and we conceived and designed it from the ground up,” Miller said Digital spy.
“We knew that one day Greta would pick up the mantle and run with it,” he joked. “But yeah, I really subscribed to that theory.”
