People are terrified after video shows how easy it is for rats to climb on your toilet

People are horrified after a video that went on Reddit shows how easily rats can run down a toilet pipe.

Viewers were amazed at how smoothly the rat swam through the underwater passage and climbed up to a curve with a pocket of air.

Like a graceful synchronized swimmer, the rat in the video turns streamlined out of the tight bend and ends up in the toilet bowl shortly afterwards.

But not everyone wants Remy from Ratatouille to show up in their toilet, horrified viewers at how easily the rat reached the finish line.

One user commented, “New fear unlocked.”

Rats can chew and damage insulation or even work their way through electrical wires and start a house fire

Another chimed in, “That’s why I flush before I sit down and poop fast enough so the rat can’t climb back up in time.”

But some were not convinced that the video was an accurate representation.

One commenter quipped, “That’s stupid, how will it climb the first 10 feet of vertical pipe.”

Happy, @twinhomexperts Jim and Dave on TikTok explained to their 800,000+ followers how rats could plague your toilet.

The answer: broken sewer pipes under your house.

According to the twins who provide rodent control services in the US, a lady had six “city rats” running through the pipes to her toilet, all because of a broken pipe under her house.

Although rat infestations are not very commonplace and can be dangerous as the animal can carry pathogens that can be transmitted to humans through air, feces and urine.

Rats are unwanted visitors that no one wants in their home – they can contaminate food, transmit disease and even cause structural damage

As mentioned earlier, they can gain access to your home by rushing through small openings and causing damage to your home.

They can chew and damage insulation or even work their way through electrical wires and start a house fire.

To prevent future infestations, Adam Juson, co-founder of commercial pest control company Merlin Environmental, told MailOnline, “It’s essential to block entry points where rats can enter your building.

“Use caulk and steel wool to seal any gaps that rodents might use as entrances — if there are any gaps around doors or windows, you may need to buy new seals or have the doors refitted.”

“Rats can get in through drains if they lead to your house, so you may need new metal drain grates if the ones you have are missing or broken.”

If you do end up with a rat problem, it’s important to fix it quickly, as they are notorious breeders, littering 12-15 in each litter.
