A resourceful farmer in Idaho is using his Tesla Cybertruck for a surprising purpose: powering his farm machinery.
Braden Smith’s innovative approach has taken TikTok by storm. His videos show the unexpected utility of the Cybertruck.
Smith, who manages a 2,000-acre potato and wheat farm in Rexburg, Idaho, relies heavily on power tools such as welders, plasma cutters and compressors.
Traditionally, that meant lugging around a noisy generator. But the Cybertruck’s built-in 50-amp, 240-volt outlet changed everything.
“That’s the kind of plug you plug into in a store,” Smith said East Idaho News‘When I saw that, I thought, “Holy cow, I could make something really big out of this.”‘

Smith’s TikTok videos showing off his electric farm truck have been viewed millions of times.
He engages with his audience, answers questions about the Cybertruck’s features and demonstrates how he uses the truck for tasks such as welding pipes and transporting equipment.
The Cybertruck’s unconventional design has stirred strong opinions, and Smith says he experiences that firsthand on the road.
“When I drive down the road, I get the middle finger or the thumbs up,” Smith said. “There’s no in between.”
His ingenuity has even caught the attention of major media outlets, making him famous on social media. Tesla itself has shown appreciation for his content.
“Tesla itself liked my stuff,” Smith said. “That was interesting.”
Smith emphasizes that it was not his original intention to debunk criticism of the Cybertruck.
“It was something unique that people hadn’t seen before and I thought would get a big response, and it did,” he said.
The unexpected attention from fellow farmers who want to adopt his approach is an added bonus.
While Smith acknowledges the truck’s drawbacks in his videos, he is ultimately pleased with his futuristic farm vehicle.
“If I had made a detailed list of all the features I wanted in a truck, this truck would have met most of that list,” he explained. “Unfortunately, it just looks like a stainless steel refrigerator.”
