The Scottish actor, 69, starred opposite Pierce Brosnan in the 1995 spy film, which marked Pierce’s post-Timothy Dalton Bond debut.
In the blockbuster, Alan played Boris Grishenko, a computer programmer connected to the Janus crime syndicate, which Bond was forced to shut down.
In the film, 007 fights to stop a rogue ex-MI6 agent (played by Sean Bean), 006, from using a satellite weapon against London to cause a global financial collapse.
In a new interview, Alan recalled that fans are still “freaking out” about his performance in the film, despite it being almost 30 years old.

‘People always ask me to say, “I’m invincible” – they still shout at me in the street and stuff.
‘It’s grown a bit slowly and now it’s become a kind of slogan, I think. It’s great to have a slogan. I like a slogan.’
GoldenEye also starred Robbie Coltrane as a Russian gangster, Minnie Driver as a mistress and Famke Janssen as a Georgian fighter pilot.
Judi Dench also played the role of M and made history as the first woman to portray the character, replacing Robert Brown.
In 2021, Alan shared that he “felt suicidal” the day he auditioned for GoldenEye, admitting it was “one of the worst days of my life.”
He told CBS: ‘I felt really, really down. Now I’m just thinking, “Oh, you poor little thing, you could have told me I’m feeling suicidal today.”
He also added that “Hollywood saved him” while discussing his new memoir Baggage: Tales from a Fully Packed Life.
