People are just realizing what the little yellow triangle on your iPhone means – and you shouldn’t ignore it

People are realizing what the little yellow triangle on your iPhone means – and it’s trying to prevent you from permanently damaging your device.

Two triangles may appear in a popup from Apple on your iPhone. Both show a yellow triangle enclosing a blue water drop.

The first pop-up will show: ‘Charging not available’.

This is displayed when you have connected your iPhone to a charger and liquid is detected.

It is possible to ignore the warning, but this should only be done in an emergency

If you plug in something that isn’t a charger, like wired headphones, it says “Liquid detected in Lightning connector.”

Both posts recommend unplugging the cable and letting it dry, which could take “several hours,” the iPhone maker said.

It is possible to ignore the warning, but only in an emergency.

Apple warned, “Charging your iPhone while the Lightning port is wet can cause the pins on the Lightning port or cable to corrode and cause permanent damage or stop functioning, causing connectivity issues for your iPhone or accessory.”

According to Apple, it’s best to gently tap your iPhone against your hand with the Lightning port facing down to ensure that the liquid drains out.

Then let your iPhone dry in an area with airflow and try to wait at least half an hour before trying to charge again.

Although it may be tempting, do not insert a foreign object, such as cotton swabs or paper towels, into the connector.

Apple recommended many people’s solution to liquid-related iPhone problems: putting it in rice.

The company said this is a myth because “tiny rice particles[can]damage your iPhone.”
