Penny Lancaster banned Rod Stewart from being friends with Donald Trump

Why I stopped hanging out with Donald Trump: Rod Stewart reveals wife Penny Lancaster banned them from being friends because she thought the former president’s attitude towards women was a ‘disgrace’

Sir Rod Stewart has revealed that his wife banned him from being friends with Donald Trump.

The singer spoke of how Penny Lancaster prevented him from attending events organized by the former US president because she finds his attitude towards women a “disgrace”.

Stewart and Trump are neighbors in Florida’s exclusive Palm Beach area and have known each other for decades.

The 78-year-old Maggie May star has performed at Trump’s casinos in the past and previously described him as a friend.

However, he said former model Penny, 52, ended the friendship over Trump’s controversial comments about women.

The singer spoke of how his wife Penny Lancaster (pictured) stopped him from attending events hosted by the former US president because she thinks his attitude towards women is a “disgrace”.

In an interview with Scottish Field magazine, Stewart said, “I have a house in Palm Beach, just down the road from Trump.

“I used to go to his Christmas party and the balls he held, but my wife said ‘no’. There were things he came out with, things he said about women he’d known in the past, and Penny said ‘you’re not going – he’s a disgrace’.’

In the run-up to the 2016 presidential election, a tape surfaced showing Trump bragging about grabbing women by the genitals.

Sir Rod said of their friendship in 2018: “I’ve known Trump for a long time. I played concerts for him at his casinos. I live probably three-quarters of a mile away from him on the beach in Florida.

“He’s always been very nice to me. He’s let my friends use his golf course for free, and I’ve had no problems with him at all.

‘Is he a great president? No. I think his moral compass is way off. But on the other hand, the country is doing very well, although I think part of that is thanks to President Obama – the country started to do well anyway, he just keeps going.”

Donald Trump said last night that he would “never leave” the race for the White House, even if convicted of illegally withholding highly sensitive material and lying about it.

He is due to appear in court in Miami tomorrow, but told media outlet Politico he would not give up his hopes for the 2024 presidential election.

In Columbus, Georgia, where the former president gave his first speech since being indicted, he told his supporters: “I risked everything and I will never give in.

“I will never be held.”
