Pennsylvania authorities have stepped up the search for a Brazilian fugitive by sounding his mother’s voice through police loudspeakers and a helicopter.
Danelo Cavalcante escaped from a maximum security prison in Chester County on Thursday morning.
The 34-year-old was sentenced to life imprisonment two weeks ago for the April 2021 murder of his ex-girlfriend Débora Brandao, 34, mother of two.
State police, which have taken over the investigation, have deployed patrol cars and helicopters that broadcast a recorded message from Cavalcante’s mother.

The message, in Portuguese, asks him to turn himself in to the police, without threat of violence.
Pennsylvania State Police Deputy Commissioner George Bivens said Monday that if Cavalcante “is not actively surrendering, deadly force is allowed.”
Authorities have received reports of four credible sightings but have been unable to locate the convicted killer.
A home security camera showed that Cavalcante was walking through a wooded area around 12:30 p.m. on Saturday.
According to the police, he was wearing pants, a light-colored t-shirt and white sneakers at the time.

Authorities have yet to say how Cavalcante escaped prison, where he was being held pending a transfer to a state prison.
Cavalcante is also wanted for a 2021 murder in Brazil. Prosecutors say he stabbed Brandao to death in front of her two children to prevent her from reporting him to US authorities.
He was apprehended in Virginia after he killed Brandao. Authorities believe he tried to flee to Mexico to return to Brazil.
Chester County District Attorney Deb Ryan said last week that Cavalcante may want to travel south again.
