In the end, the Utah military veteran would have to pay around £250,000 to have the left ‘Frankenstein’ surgery corrected.
And he’s not the only one. Dozens of other men seek similarly dangerous treatments in pursuit of the perfect penis, driven by feelings of insecurity about their appearance or inadequacy in the bedroom.
For some, the mission to have a longer, thicker or more aesthetically pleasing organ has failed.

One option, called the Penuma implant, is a silicone structure that is surgically inserted into the penis, similar to some breast implants.

It’s not just about the size. Some men, like Matt, are just looking for a more aesthetically pleasing penis.
After being unhappy with a slight left turn, the 46-year-old thought a £12,500 implant would solve all his genital problems.

He has since had to shell out more than £250,000 for further procedures to regain his ‘masculinity’, with the Penuma device removed five months later.
Matt, who declined to share his last name, claimed his girlfriend said his penis “felt like a steak knife afterwards when he had sex.”
He said it made his penis more “deformed” and made him feel like “Frankenstein’s monster,” in excruciating pain with nowhere to go.
“It felt like a broomstick had been implanted in my penis,” he told MailOnline.
“I walked up and down my apartment every night in pain.
“You don’t feel like you can have a sexual or intimate partner or experience with the one you love.
“You feel distant, you feel isolated, you feel utterly lonely.”
He said that after the surgery his swelling and pain did not go away and he felt it getting worse every day as the weeks passed.
Matt said the swelling got so bad that his girlfriend, who is a registered nurse, was forced to drain 230 ml of fluid from his swollen penis.
But his problems didn’t stop after the implant disappeared.
Matt said scar tissue had formed over his penis as a result of the procedure, constricting blood flow and preventing it from stretching and expanding during an erection. It also left him in agony.
This prompted him to “fly around the world” to find a reconstructive surgeon who could help him.
After a horrific ordeal, Matt said his penis now looks “OK” and has achieved its original goal of eliminating the curvature.
Unlike Matt, Emmanuel Jackson didn’t pay to get a bigger penis. Instead, he won free surgery in 2013.

But ecstasy turned to pain after the ex-model, then 26 years old, was reportedly left with fractures of his silicone implant in his penis.
For five years he reported no problems. But in 2018, Cleveland Clinic medics told him his implant had broken into pieces that floated under his skin.
Such extreme pain even drove Emmanuel to commit suicide, according to ProPublica.
Penuma implants can have dangerous side effects, experts say. A surgeon warned that they can become infected and kill the skin around the penis.
Professor Amr Raheem from International Andrology said: ‘In severe cases of infection, necrosis or death of the skin of the penis covering the implant can occur.
“This is a serious complication that requires immediate attention and likely removal of the implant to control the infection and prevent further tissue damage.”
He added that those who want a longer penis from the implant may ironically meet the opposite fate — depending on how it heals.
Called retraction, this sees tissue around the penis contract as it forms scars during the healing process of the incision.
Penuma implants are the only penile implant surgery approved by the FDA and they are only available in the US.

According to the NHS, around 45 per cent of men in the UK are unhappy with their penis size.
The health department says the average size of an adult penis is 3 to 4 inches when flaccid, and between 6 and 7 inches when erect.
There are two different types of penis enlargement procedures available on the NHS and they include lengthening and widening.
But only men with a micropenis — an organ less than 2.8 inches — are eligible.
Micropenis usually develop in the womb from a hormonal or genetic disorder and are usually diagnosed shortly after birth.
