Mike Pence fueled the flames of a future run for president by appearing alongside Chuck Grassley at the Iowa State Fair this week and making a visit to the senator’s home to ‘talk issues.’
The former vice president and Senator Grassley were pictured on Friday sheltering from heavy rain during the state’s annual August fair in Des Moines, Iowa.
On Saturday, Pence, 63, continued his swing through the state by joining the Bremer County GOP’s second annual ‘grill and chill’ event to promote Republican candidates for the midterm elections.
‘Great to be in Iowa today for the Bremer County Republican Party’s Second Annual Summer Grill and Chill!’ Pence wrote on Twitter along with a series of images.
‘We are just 80 days away from the start of a Great American Comeback!’ he lauded. ‘We are going to win back the House, win back the Senate, and win back statehouses across the country!’
Grassley, 88, also said that he got a separate visit from Pence on Saturday to his farm in Iowa.

Pence went to the Bremer County Republicans’ Grill and Chill event on Saturday, August 20 in Waverly, Iowa where he said of the GOP: ‘We are just 80 days away from the start of a Great American Comeback! We are going to win back the House, win back the Senate, and win back statehouses across the country!’
The day prior on Friday, August 19, Pence joined Senator Chuck Grassley at the Iowa State Fair
The Iowa senator posted an image of flowers that he said the former vice president bought for his wife and claimed they discussed politics during the visit.
‘VP Pence brought beautiful bouquet for Mrs g when he just stopped by farm,’ Grassley tweeted. ‘We and Pence team had ice cream as we talked issues.’
The flowers are likely in celebration of Grassley’s 68-year anniversary with his wife Barbara upcoming on Monday.
Pence has distanced himself from former President Donald Trump and the pro-MAGA wing of the Republican Party since the January 6 Capitol riot.
He has also expressed his willingness to cooperate with a subpoena from the House select committee probing the Capitol riot, but noted the move would be unprecedented for a former president to testify before Congress.

Pence and Grassley were caught in a heavy downpour at the Iowa State Fair on Friday, August 19, 2022
Panel-member Liz Cheney, who was recently voted out of her Wyoming House seat for turning on Trump, has said she hopes Pence would choose to testify and other member of the committee haven’t shut down the idea of a subpoena for him.
‘I would hope that he [Pence] will understand how important it is for the American people to know every aspect of the truth about what happened that day,’ Cheney told ABC News’ This Week program on Sunday morning.
Pence received a warm welcome from the Iowa State Fair on Friday, pumping a fist in the air to bystanders amid a heavy downpour and cheers of, ‘You’re the man!’.
Some boos were also shot his way from fairgoers.
Joining Pence for the fair visit with Grassley, the Senate president pro tempore emeritus, were Representatives Mariannette Miller-Meeks and Randy Feenstra as well as candidate for the 3rd district Zach Nunn.
