Pedophiles could be executed under new bills proposed by MAGA firebrand Anna Paulina Luna

A Republican congressman is poised to reintroduce a series of bills that would impose the death penalty on those convicted of sex crimes against children.

Stalwart Donald Trump ally Anna Paulina Luna, R-Fla., first introduced two of the bills during last year’s Congress, but neither managed to gain traction.

“When you rape someone, when you molest someone, you are essentially killing their soul. Those people never fully recover,’ Luna said Fox News digital in an interview Tuesday.

‘I actually sat on a committee with a very prominent one [female House Democrat] who actually spoke about being abused as a child. And so you can see that it affects people and really hurts,” Luna said.

The Holding Child Predators Accountable Act mandated the death penalty or life imprisonment for anyone found guilty of “producing, distributing or possessing child pornography,” according to a press release from Luna’s office on April 11, 2024.

The No Repeat Child Sex Offenders Act was a broader bill that would also have forced judges to impose the death penalty or life imprisonment on people convicted of child sex trafficking.

That bill would have covered a wide variety of crimes, including “sexual exploitation, human trafficking, abuse of minors, transportation for sexual activities, coercion into prostitution, operation of sexual exploitation businesses, production of child pornography, and other forms of sexual abuse and sexual contact . ‘

As the law currently stands, people convicted for the first time of distributing or possessing child pornography can be sentenced to as little as five years in prison or as long as 20 years. Repeat offenders could face 15 to 40 years behind bars.

Rep. Anna Paulina Luna, R-Fla., will reintroduce a package of bills that would significantly increase the penalties facing people found guilty of child sex crimes

When it comes to child sex trafficking, there is a broader reach. According to police, offenders could be sentenced to up to 10 years or life in prison Title 18 of the United States Code.

Of course, Luna’s two bills, if passed, would completely erase these gradations.

A third bill she plans to reintroduce would require people guilty of raping or sexually assaulting adults to face a mandatory prison sentence of at least 30 years to life.

Luna theorized that her efforts to pass these bills last year failed because she insisted on including the death penalty as a punishment.

“I really pushed this last Congress, and I was quite surprised that there didn’t seem to be a huge appetite to push this,” she said. “I mean, it got a lot of good press, but when it was introduced, you didn’t see many of my colleagues wanting to jump in.”

“I think some people will look at the death penalty and say we shouldn’t do it, but again, in my opinion, you can’t rehabilitate a predator,” she added.

Luna told Fox that this weekend, while having dinner with President-elect Trump at Mar-a-Lago, she brought up these bills with him and said he was “supportive.”

Luna said Trump raised the issue of child sex trafficking during the campaign, which gives her hope that her legislative package will pass this time.

Last August, Trump called for the death penalty “for anyone guilty of sex trafficking of children or women,” while talking about punishment for illegal immigrants.

His harsh comments about the crime came during a campaign event along the U.S.-Mexico border in Arizona.

Luna said she and Trump discussed changing the sentencing guidelines through an executive order, but ultimately concluded that an act by Congress would be necessary.

“We cannot authorize something like this through an executive order because in many cases it would increase the mandatory minimums for some of these crimes.” And so it has to go through Congress first,” Luna said.

Luna, along with many other Republicans in the House of Representatives, visited Trump in Palm Beach, Florida, on Saturday to discuss their policy goals before he was sworn in on January 20.

The 219-215 advantage the Republican Party currently has will soon drop to 217-215 after two lawmakers joined the Trump administration.

This makes it critical for the party to reach agreement on major policies, such as immigration reform, the president-elect’s extension of the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act of 2017, cuts to federal spending and the military budget.
