Paul Skenes makes more MLB history as Olivia Dunne’s boyfriend is selected for 2024 All-Star Game in rookie season with the Pittsburgh Pirates
Paul Skenes is the first player ever to be selected with the first pick in the draft and become an MLB All-Star in his first season.
The Pirates sensation also became the first rookie pitcher in Pittsburgh history to make the All-Star team after being selected to the National League roster.
Skenes, whose relationship with gymnast Olivia Dunne has drawn more attention to his MLB career, has shined since he first took the mound.
He has now been named as one of 13 NL pitchers for the game, which will take place July 16 at Arlinton’s Globe Life Field.
Skenes is technically replacing Philadelphia’s Zack Wheeler, who was selected to the All-Star Game but is unable to pitch because he is scheduled to play against the A’s next weekend.

The All-Star teams are selected through a combination of fan votes, player votes and MLB Commissioners’ votes.
The nine starting players in each competition are chosen by the supporters, who make their choice in two rounds of voting.
The remaining players are then chosen through a player ballot (there are 17 spots available per team) and the commissioner’s office, which is responsible for selecting six additional players from each league.
Skenes was chosen by MLB officials, who were also responsible for ensuring that every team was represented in the All-Star Game.
Skenes is one of two Pirates players on the NL roster, along with outfielder Bryan Reynolds. The 22-year-old reportedly could be the starting pitcher for the National League.
Earlier this month, Skenes made MLB history by recording seven or more strikeouts in nine of his first 10 starts — something no other pitcher has ever accomplished.
