Paul Scholes has claimed that Erik ten Hag needs to “find a better right-back” this season to get the best out of Jadon Sancho.
Sancho, who joined Manchester United from Borussia Dortmund in 2021 for £73m, missed the early parts of the season after he decided to take a break from football due to concerns raised about his well-being.
The 21-year-old has played 24 times this season and appears to be one of United’s most promising young talents, scoring twice in his last five league appearances, since returning from that break, becoming a regular face in the starting eleven for Ten Hag.
But Scholes believes there is more to come from the winger, claiming he needs better players around him.
Speaking to BT Sport, the former Man United midfielder was asked if Sancho has done enough this season, saying: “Not yet, I don’t think so, I still think there is a lot more to come from him.

Sancho is one of the most exciting young talents at the club, having scored five goals this season.
But Scholes believes he needs to play alongside a better right-back to really flourish.
“Obviously he had his problems and issues that the manager handled, came back and scored a couple of goals.”
“I still think there’s a player there, he just needs the right players around him.”
Sancho replaced Marcus Rashford during Man United’s 1-0 win against Real Betis on Thursday night.
His football journey began at Watford, before moving to Manchester City’s youth system in 2014.
Dazzling scouts with his superb skill and goal-scoring abilities, Sancho would earn himself a move to Borussia Dortmund in 2017, where he would go on to return an impressive 50 goals and 64 assists in 137 games.
During that time, Sancho had a number of excellent players around him, including Achraf Hakimi and Erling Haaland, and Scholes believes Man United need more quality players around him to bring out the best in the young winger.
“Remember at Dortmund before, he had a flying right-back all the time, which really helped him because he’s not a quick player, he’s more of a skillful player who wants to play football, wants to play with his center forward and Right side.
“If United can find a better right-back, it could be a different proposition.”
Sancho missed the early parts of the season, but since his return he has scored twice in the last month.

Wout Weghorst has recently been the first choice for the center forward position in Man United’s XI.

Meanwhile, Sancho will still have stiff competition to break into the Red Devil attacking line with the likes of Antony, Alejandro Garnacho and Facundo Pellistri all vying for a spot in Ten Hag’s attack.
