Paul Scholes says Harry Kane WON’T move to Manchester United this summer

Paul Scholes says Harry Kane will NOT move to Manchester United this summer and tells Erik ten Hag it would be a ‘risk’ to go all in on the England captain in his search for a new striker

  • Manchester United have struggled to find a regular striker option this season
  • Wout Weghorst has not scored a Premier League goal since his arrival in January
  • Paul Scholes thinks it is a ‘risk’ for Erik ten Hag to try to sign Harry Kane

Paul Scholes believes Manchester United boss Erik ten Hag should not try to sign Harry Kane as he is looking for a long-term number nine as the English man is ‘happy’ at Tottenham Hotspur.

United have struggled to close the gap left by the departure of Cristiano Ronaldo over the winter, with Wout Weghorst on loan yet to score a Premier League goal.

Paul Scholes admitted goalscroing was a problem for his former side, but he didn’t see Kane as the betting solution, as he said BT Sports: “I think goals are a problem, [United are] far behind City and Arsenal at the top of the table in terms of goals.’

“I think Harry is very happy where he is. If he moved it would have been to Man City a few years ago.

“He would be fantastic, 25 goals guaranteed, but it’s very difficult for him to move at 30 years old.

Erik ten Hag’s team is struggling to fill the void at the front due to the departure of Cristiano Ronaldo

“It’s also a risk for Man United, if you put all your eggs in that Harry Kane basket and suddenly Daniel Levy is making fun of you, you wouldn’t end up with anyone.

“If you get him early, great, but I just think he’s really happy at Tottenham, doing what he’s doing.”

The former England midfielder also believed the Red Devils should look for more goals within the current squad, continuing: “There are players who can score goals, we know how well Marcus [Rashford] this year, I still think he can score 20-25 goals this season.

“I think there are other players who can take it, [Jadon] Sancho, Anthony, [Alejandro] Garnacho. You have to try to get them to 15 goals if you want a team that can compete for the national title.’

He compared the situation to his own time at United, adding: “When I was playing we had four strikers trying to score 80 goals together, if Marcus does it alone and the others aren’t playing around him .” it is very difficult.

“If Anthony Martial can stay fit, which is a very big condition, then he also has 20-25 goals in him if he plays a whole season.”

‘I think that he [Ten Hag] enters the transfer market, but he must also try to get more out of his wide players.’

Despite a turbulent run of results in recent weeks, Manchester United could still be on their way to an excellent season.

They are fourth in the league with 10 games left in the season, with a three-point buffer and a game to play against Tottenham Hotspur.

Ten Hag’s side have also already secured the League Cup and could potentially win two more trophies this season as they compete in the Europa League and FA Cup.

United will then play against Everton on Saturday.
