Paul Scholes has claimed Man United should have paid “whatever it cost” to sign Harry Kane before Bayern Munich.
The former Man United midfielder claimed ahead of their Champions League group stage match against the German champions that the club should have focused their efforts on luring Kane to Old Trafford.
Kane eventually joined Bayern in a £100 million move from Tottenham in the summer, with the Red Devils instead signing Rasmus Hojlund for £72 million.
“Without a shadow of a doubt,” Scholes said on TNT Sports, when asked if Man United would have had to break the bank to sign Kane.
“They were asking for a center forward. Whatever the cost, they should have gotten it.

“You buy 25 to 30 goals per season.
“Young Hojlund is a man with a future but does not yet have a great goal record. He might do it in the future.
“Kane coming into this team, you think 25-30 goals.
“If you think about owners and money, if you had the budget to buy one or three players, I would have bought Harry Kane all day long.
“He would have brought so much to this team.”
Sports Mail revealed this week that Kane would have waited until next summer to sign for Man United if the deal had been guaranteed.
The 30-year-old had decided on a move to Old Trafford and was even said to have completed the final 12 months of his contract with Spurs, but he was unsure whether United could keep the door open for him.
Kane was manager Erik ten Hag’s main target, but United couldn’t afford him and had to fight to convince Spurs chief Daniel Levy to let the striker join a Premier League rival.

As soon as United turned to a younger, cheaper option in Hojlund, Kane sealed his move to Bayern.
Former Man United defender Rio Ferdinand has insisted the club should have done a deal for Kane, with the pundit suggesting the England captain’s influence and goals would have been crucial for Ten’s side Hag.
“You have to go after someone like that, who guarantees you goals,” Ferdinand said.
“You add 30 goals and his influence in matches, his presence and his character in the dressing room.
“He’s a leader, he’ll bring you anything you want to change the way things are done.” For some reason Man United didn’t do it and Bayern took advantage.
