Paul Scholes has labeled Manchester United winger Antony a ‘one trick pony’ after his appearance against Omonia in the Europa League.

The £80million Brazilian was not at his best for the Red Devils during their 3-2 Europa League win against the Cypriot side.

After the game, manager Erik ten Hag said that he found his match too static in the first half of the game.

Paul Scholes has hammered aspects of Manchester United’s performance against Omonia

Scholes reprimanded Jadon Sancho (pictured) for not falling behind enough in the game

The former Manchester United legend agreed with the Dutchman’s assessment, but also suggested that Antony is a bit limited at the moment, as he told BT Sport: “He was right that the wingers were static.

“Sancho never really falls behind. He really needs a fast left back or a center striker to join in and he doesn’t really have one at the moment.

‘Antony on the other hand too, he’s not lagging behind. He seems to be a bit of a one trick pony.

“He always cuts in and either goes back to fullback or has a chance. You think he needs to develop a little more. It’s still early for him, we know that.’

Antony came close to scoring against Omonia, but couldn’t influence the game

Scholes was also critical of the team’s defensive performance against Omonia as he felt the team was too easy to play through.

He added: “It was so easy, United seemed so easy to break through. I don’t think the back four are good enough one-on-one.

“United were a bit lucky, despite creating chances on the other side.”

Cristiano Ronaldo had a few chances to score against Omonia but failed to hit the net

On Cristiano Ronaldo, Scholes admitted the Portuguese star should have scored on the night after missing a few opportunities, including a nanny.

“Ronaldo will be a little frustrated because he should have scored, but defensively you’re still worried about them. They looked shaky, so there’s work to be done there.’

Owen Hargreaves added: “Defensively United clearly have work to do but they created a lot of chances and [Cristiano] Ronaldo really should have had some.”
