Paul Scholes has expressed concerns that Manchester United have a “soft underbelly” after Erik ten Hag’s side suffered a 4-3 defeat to Bayern Munich in their Champions League opener.
The Red Devils lost 2-0 at the Allianz Arena after Andre Onana’s error gifted Leroy Sané the opener in the 28th minute.
Serge Gnabry then doubled the hosts’ lead four minutes later.
Speaking on TNT Sports, former Man United star Scholes claimed his former team were to blame for collapsing amid adversity.
The pundit pointed out that although Man United did well to score three times against the German champions, he believed Bayern Munich were able to score more that night.

Paul Scholes claimed quick double reflected weakness in Man United team

“They have a weakness,” Scholes said. “There’s a soft underbelly and they seem to collapse a bit when things go wrong.
“They scored three goals and that’s good, but I felt Bayern could then light the fire and score another one.
“I thought there was a big distance between the teams, especially in the second half.
“In the first half I thought they did well, but they still conceded two goals due to lack of concentration.
“There is experience in the team but I don’t think it is used. The concentration in Europe is so great that once you concede a goal it can turn into two or three goals.
“None of these centre-halves are saying ‘look at Casemiro and Eriksen, come in here’.
“Do Casemiro and Eriksen tell the wide players to come next to me, let’s calm the game down.”
Man United were a goal down after half-time, with Ramus Hojlund scoring his first for the club after a summer transfer, before Harry Kane restored Bayern’s two-goal lead from the penalty spot.
Casemiro scored two late goals for the Ten Hag side, while Mathys Tel added a fourth for the hosts in stoppage time.
This result continues Man United’s difficult start to the season, with the Red Devils having lost their last three matches in all competitions.
