Paul Scholes has claimed Jurgen Klopp and Jordan Henderson have retired amid the absence of the Liverpool captain from their starting line-up.

This comes after Henderson sat on the bench for his side’s 1-0 defeat and lackluster performance against struggling Nottingham Forest.

Liverpool missed some of the loss and Scholes believes their skipper’s influence could have made all the difference.

Speak with Premier League ProductionsScholes said: “He’s got Jordan Henderson on the bench, he should be playing.

“He is the leader of the team. He’s the captain and the only one, the Casemiro type role, and he puts everyone to work.’

The Manchester United legend’s confusion over the omission of Henderson from the starting XI has led him to speculate on the possible reasons.

“It appears to have fallen with him or to bear an injury. Something isn’t right there.’

If Scholes is right, it could help explain why the 32-year-old has not started two of Liverpool’s last three Premier League games.

However, despite Scholes’ claim, Henderson has remained a fixture in Liverpool’s set-up this season.

The English midfielder has played in ten of Liverpool’s eleven Premier League games this season, seven of which.

If there is a gap between manager and player, Liverpool’s lineups in their upcoming matches could be an indication.

Liverpool welcome Leeds to Anfield this weekend, hoping to bounce back from their defeat at City Ground.
