Paul Pogba has reportedly been living on a ‘minimum wage’ at Juventus since he was hit with a four-year doping ban, which has now been shortened.

Mail Sport exclusively announced on Friday that the French midfielder has had his initial four-year drug ban reduced to just 18 months by the Court of Arbitration for Sport.

Pogba initially faced a likely retirement if the ban was upheld after testing positive for DHEA, which boosts testosterone and is on WADA’s banned list, in August 2023.

However, the decision to shorten his suspension means Pogba can now resume training with Juventus in January and play his first league match from March 2025.

His career revival will also see the former Manchester United star return to the mega salary he received from Juventus when he signed a four-year contract with the club.

Pogba saw his mega-money contract in Italy cut to just £1,700 a month after being banned

Since his suspension, Pogba has reduced his pay package to a ‘minimum wage’, which will now receive a welcome boost to put him among Serie A’s top earners, as reported by Gazzetta.

It is believed the 31-year-old lives on a salary of £1,700 a month rather than the usual riches that come with being one of the sport’s biggest stars.

Should Juventus decide to keep the World Cup winner in their ranks, his wages will return to around £10.4 million per year, mirroring the deal Pogba signed for the club as a free agent.

That wage equates to around £200,000 per week, which will be a welcome boost for the ex-Premier League star who previously decided to leave Old Trafford following the expiry of his contract.

However, it remains to be seen whether Juventus will keep Pogba in their ranks now that they have discovered when the superstar personality can return to the pitch.

Pogba later released a statement celebrating the end of ‘the nightmare’ as his appeal against the original ban was successful.

‘Finally the nightmare is over. After the ruling of the Court of Arbitration for Sport, I can look forward to the day when I can follow my dreams again,” he said on Instagram.

The Frenchman will now soon return to his previous £10.4m-a-year deal agreed with Juventus

“I have always stated that I have never knowingly violated World Anti-Doping Agency regulations when taking a nutritional supplement prescribed to me by a physician and which does not affect or enhance the performance of male athletes.

“I play with integrity and while I must accept that this is a breach of strict liability, I would like to express my gratitude to the judges of the Court of Arbitration for Sport who heard my explanation.

“This has been an extremely painful time in my life as everything I have worked so hard for has been put on hold.

‘Thank you again for all the love and support. I just can’t wait to get back on the field.”
