Paul Mescal Celebrates His First Academy Award Nomination With A Night On The Town

Paul Mescal seemed in good spirits as he celebrated his first Academy Award nomination by enjoying a night on the town with his friends.

The 26-year-old Normal People star, who is up for Best Actor for his role in Aftersun, headed to 69 Colebrook Row in Islington hours after his nomination was announced.

The actor was joined by Fleabag star Andrew Scott, his Normal People co-star Fionn O’Shea and Irish actress Alison Oliver as he celebrated the achievement.

Paul sported a black T-shirt and a pair of blue jeans as he smoked a cigarette outside the bar.

The star beamed from ear to ear and happily posed for photos with fans who caught sight of him as he walked by.

Paul, who is currently starring in Almedia Theater’s production of A Streetcar Named Desire, wrapped his arms around his friends as he celebrated the occasion.

During a recent appearance on the podcast off menuPaul alluded to his recent split from Phoebe Bridgers while talking about getting back to smoking.

He said: ‘I smoke from time to time. I’ve been looking for a reason to start smoking again for a while, usually when something bad happens I start again, and I’m smoking again now, so take what you want from that!’

Paul’s younger sister said she felt “sick with pride” sharing a photo of the moment her brother found out he was an Academy Award nominee.

The star looked absolutely delighted after receiving the incredible news.

Shortly after the nominations were announced, Paul’s emotional sister Nell, 19, shared photos of the moment on her social media.

Nell posted a screenshot of a video call between her family when they heard the news together, both looking equally elated.

Paul’s latest episode of good news comes after he was also nominated for a BAFTA for the same role.

He earned a British Academy Television Award for Best Actor in 2021 for his role as Connell on Normal People.

Aftersun tells the story of a girl named Sophie, played by Frankie Corio, who reflects on the shared joy and private melancholy of a vacation she took with her father twenty years earlier.

The nominations were announced by Riz Ahmed and Allison Williams ahead of the 95th Academy Awards, which will take place on Sunday, March 12.

Pablo joins other British and Irish nominees Colin Farrel, Bill Nighy and Andrea Riseborough, who have earned nominations in the Best Actor and Actress categories.

The star-studded Oscar ceremony, which will be hosted by American comedian and presenter Jimmy Kimmel, will take place on March 12 at the Dolby Theater in Los Angeles.
