Paul Mescal addresses fan theory that Normal People’s Daisy Edgar-Jones and his Gladiator II co-star Joseph Quinn are doppelgangers
Paul Mescal has spoken out about the hilarious fan theory that Daisy Edgar-Jones and Joseph Quinn are doppelgängers.
The duo have sent the internet into a frenzy in recent days when fans noticed an unlikely yet uncanny resemblance between Daisy, 26, and Joseph, 30.
Social media users have noted how similar the couple’s facial features are, noting that they are “doppelgängers” and should play siblings in a movie.
Now Paul – who starred in Normal People with Daisy and Gladiator II with Joseph – has broken his silence on the funny trend and given it his full support.
The actor, 28, insisted he saw the resemblance between his two co-stars long before the theories surfaced online, but said Stranger Things star Joseph remains unconvinced.
“We talked about this in an interview recently and he wasn’t convinced,” he said Marie Claire Australia.
“I thought, I’m glad the internet supports my thoughts that they look alike.”
Paul also said he would be “lucky” to play alongside Daisy again when asked if she could join the Gladiator franchise as Joseph’s sibling in the future.

Daisy herself has even addressed the funny online memes, admitting that her fans are often told she looks like Joseph.
“I’m not being mistaken for Joe Quinn,” she told Josh Horowitz earlier this year while promoting her film Twisters.
“But people have told me I look like a female Joe Quinn. I see it.’
Fans have been joking on social media in recent days that Paul has included a clause in his movie contracts that one of his co-stars must always look like Daisy.
The tongue-in-cheek theories started circulating when fans noticed how much Joseph – who stars as villainous emperor Geta in Gladiator II – resembles Paul’s former co-star Daisy.
“Mescal had included in his contract that at least one actor had to look like Daisy Edgar-Jones,” someone joked.
Another joked: “Joe Quinn grew his facial hair so he won’t be mistaken for Daisy Edgar-Jones.”
“Daisy Edgar-Jones and Joseph Quinn are from the same cloning tank,” a third commented.
A fourth said: ‘Daisy Edgar-Jones and Joseph Quinn are the same person, I can’t be convinced otherwise.’

A sixth tweeted: “Do you think Paul Mescal looked at Joseph Quinn while filming Gladiator 2 and thought he was Daisy Edgar-Jones?”
“Joseph Quinn and Daisy Edgar-Jones could play twins and I would believe it,” said another.
Paul stars alongside Joseph in the lead role of Lucius in the highly anticipated sequel to the 2000 blockbuster Gladiator.
The epic, which will be released on November 14, also stars Pedro Pascal, Denzel Washington, Fred Hechinger and Connie Nielsen.
Paul first shot to fame alongside Daisy in a hugely popular TV adaptation of Sally Rooney’s novel Normal People.
