Paul Merson has issued a scathing assessment of Todd Boehly’s speech on Chelsea’s progress, claiming he has concerns for the Blues owner.
Boehly came out last week to say that Chelsea’s recent form is proof that the club’s plan is ‘coming together’ under Mauricio Pochettino.
Boehly told a Sportico conference in Los Angeles on Wednesday: ‘We saw the last two and a half games… in the second half at Aston Villa [2-2 draw] and Tottenham [2-0 win] and Westham [5-0 win] where we played beautiful football.
‘It was so fluid, it was exactly the way we set it up, when we got behind, built up and moved up the field, [it was] very organized and the number of photos we had.
“In those two and a half games you could really see what we were working on together.”

In response, Merson said: “I was quite concerned, I was quite shocked. The way he talked about this is the way we see it, this is what we put together.
“They just went out and bought the one that was available and doing well on YouTube.

‘Two and a half games ago they were absolutely destroyed by Arsenal. That’s the benchmark. The benchmark is Arsenal and they are a million miles away from Arsenal and they are a million points behind Arsenal.
‘You can’t get carried away with that. I didn’t like what I heard. It was like you don’t have to buy players anymore next season. This is the team that is doing well, but that won’t be the case.
