Paul McCartney makes surprise appearance at friend Deon Cole’s comedy show – after they ‘got high’ together before the stand-up set

It is not uncommon for stand-up comedy shows to feature well-known comedians making unannounced appearances to discuss material or deliver an exciting performance.

But the audience at the Hollywood Improv in Los Angeles got the ultimate surprise on Tuesday night when Sir Paul McCartney appeared on stage for a moment.

The 82-year-old Beatle appeared at a performance by his friend Deon Cole after the 52-year-old Black-ish star said the two had been smoking backstage.

“I got high with my friend tonight and we had a good time. Come here,” Cole said, keeping the identity of his guest a secret in a clip of the interaction he shared with X (formerly Twitter).

“Ladies and gentlemen, please give it up for my friend Paul McCartney,” he continued.

During the comedian’s introduction, McCartney could be seen sneaking through the audience, but as soon as the crowd got a good look at him on stage, they erupted in cheers.

The comedian hugged the singer-songwriter, who started giggling when Cole leaned his head against him.

McCartney, wearing a navy windbreaker with chest pockets, a blue striped shirt, dark jeans and charcoal sneakers, pointed to his watch as his buddy said on the microphone: “I got my ass kicked!”

“You were really smoking a lot of pot,” McCartney repeated, and Cole replied, “Yeah, because of that good stuff you got.”

McCartney received another laugh from the audience when he shot back: “Oh, it wasn’t my fault. Don’t blame me!”

Cole then took a moment to tease the audience about his reportedly disappointing reception.

“I had to smoke, and that’s why this is happening,” he said, “and you bastards didn’t give me any love tonight.”

After an audience member shouted back that they appreciated him, Cole shouted, “Shut your f***ing mouth!”

The supposedly mediocre set didn’t seem to bother McCartney at all. He muttered, “I just enjoyed watching you work with this material. And you’re right, some of it was crap.”

Cole laughed, but admitted he’d rather bomb in front of “40 people than 4,000.”

Cole asked if McCartney had ever

Cole asked if McCartney had ever “flopped,” and he said that the Beatles had some rough nights in their early years. “In the beginning, when we started, guys would throw pennies at us,” he admitted

Cole added that he didn't like the feeling of bombing, especially as a seasoned comedian, but he laughed when McCartney joked:

He then turned it around and asked the Wings leader if he had ever bombed together.
