Paul Kelaita: He was arrested in his undies in scenes that brought Bondi to a standstill. Now vile details have emerged about how he allegedly raped a woman for three hours

A man arrested in his underwear on a Bondi roof after an extensive manhunt is alleged to have raped a woman and held her captive during a terrifying three-hour ordeal.

Paul Kelaita, 45, was arrested by plainclothes police detectives on Wednesday after allegedly fleeing from officers in Bondi shortly before 4pm.

Kelaita, who is described as having multiple behavioral disorders including mania, did not apply for bail at Waverley Local Court on Thursday as he faces 28 charges.

Court documents revealed the Harrington Park man forced a woman into her Land Rover in Killarney just two weeks before his arrest.

Police allege Kelaita held the woman captive for three hours, during which time he raped her, forced her to touch his penis and kissed her without consent.

Keliata, who also allegedly stalked the woman before and after, allegedly “placed his flaccid penis on (her) vagina” during the incident.

Magistrate Ross Hudson described Keliata as suffering from a range of behavioral disorders for which he would receive treatment while in custody.

“(They range) from adjustment disorders, major depressive reactions to schizoid personality, OCD and other problems… manic behavior,” he said.

Kelaita was supported in the courtroom by his father and a woman who sat quietly in the back of the room and refused to answer questions as they left the courtroom.

The alleged manhunt began shortly before 4pm when police approached Kelaita on Roscoe St in Bondi in relation to the alleged sexual offences.

Kelaita is said to have fled from officers on foot, sparking a massive manhunt involving the police helicopter, which also shut down a local daycare center.

He was eventually arrested by police about an hour later on the roof of a house on Curlewis St in Bondi and dragged away in rugby shorts.

Police allege Kelaita entered a woman’s Curlewis St home during the hours-long incident with the intention of evading police before attacking her.

Local residents, who watched the manhunt unfold, reported to local media that Kelaita was using their homes as shelters.

In total, Kelaita is charged with four counts of aggravated sexual assault while in custody, and eight counts of stalking and intimidation.
