Paul Hogan’s brutal assessment on why Margot Robbie was snubbed at the Oscars for Barbie: ‘It’s not fair’

Paul Hogan has given his cheeky take on why Margot Robbie was snubbed in the Best Actress Oscar category.

Margot, 33, who was born and raised in Queensland, failed to attend this year’s 96th annual Academy Awards, which will be held in Los Angeles on March 10.

The Crocodile Dundee star, 84, appeared on Sunrise on Friday in an interview with his granddaughter, reporter Mylee Hogan.

“To see that they’re not nominated, it’s kind of… a boring tradition of, if it’s not about pain and suffering, it can’t be very good,” he said.

‘It’s not fair.’

Hogan then praised the Barbie star, saying, “She’s amazing, not only is she beautiful and smart, she’s a nice kid.”

Robbie’s omission caused a wave of backlash after many expected her starring role in Greta Gerwig’s Barbie – currently the highest-grossing film of all time – to be recognized by the Academy board.

Although many fans were upset, Robbie was not up for Best Actress, but she did receive a Best Picture nomination as one of the film’s producers.

Gerwig, 40, who was ignored in the Best Director category, also scored a nomination for the Oscar for Best Adapted Screenplay, along with her husband Noah Baumbach, 54.

During a Q&A hosted by the Academy Museum in February, Robbie said Greta “should have” been nominated for director.

“Obviously I think Greta should be nominated as a director because what she did is something you only have to do once in your career, what she pulled off, it really is. But it has been an incredible year for all films,” she said.

Robbie didn’t elaborate on her own Oscar buzz, but insisted they were “beyond ecstatic” that the film had earned eight Oscar nominations.

“We wanted to do something that would change the culture, impact the culture, just make some kind of impact. And that has already happened, and some love much more than we could ever have imagined. And that is truly the greatest reward that can come from all of this.

“I’m so, so obviously ecstatic. Anyone who gets the nods they have is incredible and Best Picture gets the nod.”
