How Paul Hogan’s troubled grandson has ‘lost his only lifeline’ – as he goes on the run after giving a bizarre address to authorities

Paul Hogan’s troubled grandson gave authorities a strange home address before fleeing police after feuding with a lover who helped him escape from prison.

Jake Hogan, the drug-addicted grandson of the Crocodile Dundee starfailed to appear in court in Sydney last Friday to face new drug and criminal charges, prompting a magistrate to issue a warrant for his arrest.

The 33-year-old former tradesman turned drug addict was arrested by police around midnight on July 26 with a small amount of meth and burglary paraphernalia in Sydney’s inner-city Glebe neighbourhood.

When he was taken to a police station in the city and charged, Hogan gave his home address as a GP surgery in the inner-western suburb of Sydenham. Hogan was then granted bail.

But he failed to appear in court at Downing Centre Court in Sydney, where he faced a high risk of being remanded in custody, when he was due to appear last week.

It was just three months ago that a crying Jake was given a lifeline when his father fled New Zealand in haste and volunteered to help him rebuild his life.

Todd Hogan, one of five children born to comedy legend Paul and his first wife Pauline, flew in to support Jake while he served community service for breaking into apartment complexes to support his drug addiction and violating a restraining order.

But a reliable source told Daily Mail Australia that Jake soon fell out with his father and failed to adhere to the rehabilitation plan set by the court.

Chief Deputy Judge Sharon Freund had told Todd Hogan and Jake’s sister Lara during the last hearing in May that she was more likely to release Jake because of the family’s show of strength.

She said Todd Hogan’s agreement to come back and live in Australia while his son served a community order was “tremendous”.

“This is a young man who needs some support. He absolutely has the chance to turn his life around,” the magistrate said.

She ordered Jake to go to rehab and therapy, and to abstain from alcohol and drugs.

The magistrate gave him a stern warning: if he breached the terms of his Intensive Corrections Order he could go back to prison, ‘and nobody wants that’.

However, it appears he may be headed to jail, given the current charges against him of possession of 1.5 grams of methamphetamine and possession of burglary paraphernalia.

It is unclear where Jake was living with his father when he was released, and whether Todd Hogan is still in Australia or has since returned to his family in New Zealand.

Todd was married to Jake’s mother Marie when Jake was a teenager, before an incident that friends say left Jake deeply traumatized. Marie suffered a “very sad” decline that led to her death from multiple sclerosis when Jake was 17 in 2006.

After Marie’s death, Paul Hogan left California, where he lived with his second wife Linda Kozlowski and their young son Chance, to attend his daughter-in-law’s funeral.

Todd eventually remarried, to registered nurse Jane, and Jake remained in Sydney, living a seemingly normal life. He began a relationship with a young mother named Racheal Young.

Jake struggled with drug and alcohol problems, but when his relationship broke down and his hopes of having a family of his own faded, he became “seriously addicted to drugs that completely took over his life,” Daily Mail Australia previously reported.

Jake has previous convictions for various drug offences, burglary and possession of tools including a Trojan wire cutter, a black flashlight, Allen keys and an adjustable wrench.

Last Friday, after the arrest warrant was approved, Judge Clare Farnan told the court she had found the latest alleged offences “proven” and Hogan was due back in court on August 28.

Hogan faces up to two years in prison for these offenses.
