American football analyst Paul Finebaum continues to make negative comments about Florida State football fans after the team failed to make the College Football Playoff last season.
It was the final year of the four-team CFP, with the field expanding to a dozen teams this season. The Seminoles could have easily made the 12-team field, but were left out of the final exclusive quartet.
Undefeated Florida State was outscored by Alabama and Texas (one loss). The CFP executives felt that the Crimson Tide and Longhorns were the better teams because they had won two other Power Five conferences in America.
Florida State fans argued that the team couldn’t have done more to qualify despite a season-ending injury to quarterback Jordan Travis.
The Seminoles then lost 63-3 in the Orange Bowl to fellow Georgia.

“One thing I’ve found, even more than the fact that Florida State is overrated, is the small-mindedness of Florida State fans. It never ceases to amaze me,” Finebaum said. “Every year I try to determine who has the most sensitive, insecure fan base in the country, and right now, at least for Week 0, I think it’s Florida State.”
“This fan base, after that pitiful performance last year — the crying and the Twitter attacks on anyone on TV or in the media who dared to go against them — has still not recovered, and that was my whole point,” Finebaum continued. “I joked, of course, that they’re probably still exhausted from all the ‘tears’ of not making the playoffs.”
“I just thought the whole thing was laughable. Their quarterback wasn’t there, so they didn’t have the same team. Their schedule wasn’t very good,” Finebaum added. “And on top of that, they were in the ACC. The argument that I’ve never heard very convincingly was that Georgia deserved to be ahead of them. Forget Alabama. They earned their way in, but Georgia was better than Florida State.”
“I’m not talking about the 220-00 win in the Orange Bowl. I’m just talking about the fact that they were a much better team. I just hope that the Florida State fans on the trip to Ireland can maybe calm down a little bit by the time they get back,” Finebaum concluded.
Florida State kicks off the American football season with a game against conference rival Georgia Tech in Dublin, Ireland.
The Seminoles enter the season ranked No. 10 in the country, giving them a good chance to make up for last year’s playoff exit.
