Paul Danan’s tragic final post: Hollyoaks star shared personal message with fans days before his death at 46

Paul Danan shared a personal message with his fans when he posted a haunting final post on Instagram just days before his tragic death at the age of 46.

The Hollyoaks actor’s shock death was revealed on Thursday as his management confirmed his death.

And in the star’s latest post, he showed off his passion for acting as he took to social media to share an audition clip for the Shakespeare play A Twelfth Night, playing the role Duke Orsino.

In a personal message to his fans, Paul explained that he had been ‘forgotten'[s] how much I need to wake up,” while talking about feeling stuck in the potential new role.

Paul cast himself in the role and gave an intense performance, writing in the caption: ‘Audition for A Twelfth Night to play Orsino. It has been a long time since I have come close to a piece by the Master, our pioneer Sir William Shakespeare.

‘You forget what a genius he really was and remember how beautiful and exciting it is when you get to work with his work.

‘It’s a great experience! I sometimes forget how often I need to wake up…

Paul’s friend Calum Best, who he met on Celebrity Love Island, shared support for the star and responded with an applause emoji.

While others complimented his achievements, more recent comments have expressed sadness in light of the news of his passing.

Famous Big Brother star Aisleyne Horgan Wallace also posted a series of heartbroken emojis, while others wrote: ‘RIP mate, sleep well’; “I can’t believe this sad news.”

Paul’s management confirmed his death in a statement: ‘It is with heavy hearts that we share the tragic news of the passing of @pauldanan at just 46 years old.

‘Paul was known for his television presence, exceptional talent and unwavering kindness and was a beacon of light to many.

“His untimely departure will leave irreplaceable voids in the lives of all who knew him.

‘During this difficult time, we kindly ask for respect and privacy for Paul’s family, friends and colleagues. No further comment will be made at this time.”

In December, Paul also hosted a TikTok Live where he discussed his struggles with mental health, in a bid to raise money for his charity The Other Side Of Morning CIC, which aimed to ‘create more community projects across the UK for people struggling with their mental health.”

The actor was best known for his role in Channel 4 soap Hollyoaks, before appearing in reality series Celebrity Love Island and Celebrity Big Brother.

Paul trained at the Italia Conti Academy of Theater Arts, before playing the role of Sol in Hollyoaks between 1997 and 2001, before leaving the soap to pursue a career in Hollywood.

He moved to Los Angeles in an attempt to make it in Hollywood, but with no family or friends nearby, he regularly used drugs.

He said: ‘They sold me as a Jude Law-type young man. You can’t party and do well in Hollywood. You must be healthy. It was cool, but eventually I got into the wrong routine of drug use.

‘I can’t stand rejection, but I choose that one job that gives you more rejection than any other job. I audition for big, big movies.

‘My life often revolved around getting stoned, going to a gig, taking a pill or cola. There were always drugs involved.

‘America is very drug-oriented when you’re young. I was in my twenties. All I needed was family or friends around me, and I didn’t have that. It was as if the drugs filled that void, they were my friend.’

Paul also claimed during the chat that he had won a small role in Hollywood comedy Cheaper By The Dozen before casting agents ultimately chose Ashton Kutcher for the role.

The star previously struggled with drug addiction and overdosed on heroin after returning from a stint in rehab. In June, he revealed that his family gave him CPR after his “obsessive” vape use caused breathing problems.

The reality star – who appeared in the 2005 original series of Celebrity Love Island and was in Hollyoaks – collapsed and had to be resuscitated by his family after losing consciousness at home.

He was then taken to hospital by ambulance and ended up in intensive care with pneumonia as his family were warned he ‘might not make it through the night’.

Paul had smoked cigarettes for years before switching to disposable vapes, which he honestly admitted he would even sleep with for comfort.

After waking up in hospital, he told how the doctor was incredibly strict with him, saying that if he continued smoking he risked being hooked up to an oxygen tank later in life.

He told it The sun: ‘I was dead – it’s a miracle I’m here. I’m puffing on my vape when I suddenly lose my breath and collapse. My family called an ambulance and started resuscitating me, then the police arrived and took over before paramedics took me to hospital.

‘I was on a machine in intensive care and got pneumonia. My family was warned that I might not make it through the night. I’m so lucky.’

‘The doctor was so, so hard on me. She said to me, ‘Paul, you don’t know how serious this was and you are going to be here for a while, on this oxygen.’

The reality star has a history of addiction and struggles with drugs and alcohol in the past, but he says he has been clean for more than three years.
