Paul Anderson pulls on a smart suit for a trip to Tescos as troubled star allays fears his well-being after wandering the streets topless – months before starting work on Peaky Blinders film

Peaky Blinders star Paul Anderson appeared to be back on form as he ventured out to London on Wednesday, shortly after sparking fears for his well-being during an earlier appearance in the city.

The popular actor, best known for his role as hard-living gangster Arthur Shelby Jr in the BBC drama, looked smart in a two-piece suit as he called a local Tescos Express.

Anderson, 46, completed the look with a white statement T-shirt and black Chelsea boots, while red-tinted sunglasses were his only statement accessory.

The actor’s latest public appearance was in stark contrast to his last, in which he looked pale, emaciated and disheveled as he walked the streets near his £1.2 million stable.

It comes just months after he was caught with crack cocaine after a day at the pub. He was also found to be in possession of amphetamines, diazepam and pregabalin.

A local shopkeeper, who considers Anderson a friend, told MailOnline: ‘It’s heartbreaking. He’s a mess. But his erratic behavior causes real problems. He often seems dazed and out of control.

‘He had an argument with people at the scene. He walks around and makes a lot of noise. We are all very concerned. He had a big row at Tesco a few weeks ago.

‘He lives like he’s on another planet. He has been topless in public. He has trouble walking. It’s a big concern. He looks out of control. It’s tragic.’

Another said: ‘He’s slowly looking worse over the months. It really stands out in the environment. It’s terrible.’

Despite concerns for his health, Anderson appeared in good spirits as he entered a local store, a protective leopard-print face mask pulled under his chin.
