Patti Newton has opened up about life after the loss of her husband of nearly half a century, Bert Newton.
The wife of the late entertainment legend, who died in October 2021 from health complications at age 83, said New Idea on Monday, she “found a new normal.”
“When I lost Bert, I didn’t know if I would ever be a happy person again,” Patti admitted.

“But I am, because I bought into the fact that whatever I do, he’s with me and he’s in my heart and he’s a part of me.”
She said that her late husband, Bert, “would want me to continue to be happy and to move on with my life.”
‘That’s what I think is the best thing to do, and you know what? I think we have found a new normal and I feel very lucky.”

Patti also admitted that she and Bert had a real, strong marriage, and that included arguments and “wars.”
Patti, who was married to Bert for 47 years, buried her husband in November 2021.
He had been receiving hospice care at a clinic in Melbourne at the time of his death.

He was hospitalized in March of that year and underwent surgery on his leg in May. He needed surgery after his toe got infected before Christmas.
The infection was “linked to his diabetes” and was life-threatening, and doctors told him surgery was a “life or death decision.”
Doctors told Bert that if he kept his leg, he would only have ‘months to live’ instead of years if he chose to have it amputated.
