Patti Newton reveals she’s unwell as she pulls out of Grease: The Musical AGAIN amid health woes

Patti Newton has temporarily withdrawn from Grease: The Musical after being struck by Covid.

The 79-year-old posted to Instagram on Sunday night to announce to her fans that she would be missing a run of the show in Sydney this week.

“Sorry I’m missing the previews for Grease,” the showbiz legend wrote in her caption.

‘Unfortunately Covid has hit me again. I look forward to being back next week,” she added.

The image showed Patti all dressed up for her role as Miss Lynch in the popular music production.

Her famous boyfriend was quick to offer their support to the veteran entertainer in the comments.

“Should I bring over some chicken soup,” wrote radio host and television personality Chrissie Swan.

“Please rest, I hope you are doing well,” actor and singer Tim Campbell added.

Patti was previously struck by Covid as she was about to begin her role in the Melbourne production of Grease: The Musical in December 2023.

The showbiz icon shared the sad news with her fans at the time, posting on Instagram to show off her legs covered in a blanket.

‘Happy New Year, I hope it will be a wonderful 2024. Covid has hit me, but I wish the cast of Grease a great first show. See you again soon,” she wrote.

Patti renewed her showbiz career as a way to cope with the loss of her beloved husband Bert Newton, who passed away in October 2021 at the age of 83.

She cast herself in a leading role in the touring stage production of Mary Poppins before joining Grease.

Married to Bert for a whopping 47 years, Patti told the Herald Sun that making the hit musical was one of the “best things” she could do for herself as it helped her heal.

She said her late husband Bert will always be her one true love and she is still haunted by his death in 2021.

‘Bert will always be the love of my life. I will never stop thinking about him,” the artist said.

She then revealed some of the ways she has been keeping Bert’s memory alive since he passed away on October 30, 2021 after a long illness.

‘When Bert was in Epworth Hospital he had this little wooden cross. A friend of mine gave it to him. Bert always took it off the tray and kissed it,” she said.

“He held it for a minute and then put it down. I take him to the theater and before a performance I pick him up and kiss him.

‘Like him, I hold it against my heart and say: “Come on Bert, let’s move on.” He’s coming on stage with me.’

It comes after news that Patti worked hard to reunite her son Matthew Newton with his sister Lauren late last year, according to a new report.

Woman’s Day claimed the troubled actor, who lives in the US, is largely estranged from his family in Australia and that Patti was “fighting for her son” to rejoin the group in time for Christmas.

“I know Patti tries to keep in touch with Matthew, but she doesn’t always hear from him,” a supposed source told the publication.

“It’s sad that she has come to terms with this level of contact.”

Part of the issue is an ongoing rift between Matthew, 47, and his sister, the magazine claims.

“I would say there wouldn’t be much, if any, communication between the Newton siblings,” the source claims, claiming “jealousy” is at play.
