There wasn’t much to cheer about for Patriots fans after their team lost 24-3 to the Jets on Thursday night, but at least they got a look at rookie quarterback Drake Maye.
Maye was selected third overall out of North Carolina in this year’s NFL Draft and has been the team’s backup behind Jacoby Brissett so far.
But on the final drive of the game, the Patriots gave Maye his debut when he led the team 46 yards down the field.
The rookie had some good moments, completing 4 of 8 passes for 22 yards, but also gave up two sacks as the Jets defense pressured him.
The drive reached the Jets’ seven-yard line before Maye was sacked for a second time and New England ran out the clock.

The night didn’t go much better for Brissett through most of the four quarters, throwing for just 98 yards and collecting five sacks of his own.
The Jets had the majority of the ball possession in the game, holding the ball for over 40 minutes, and it was ultimately a comfortable night for the home team.
On the other end of the quarterbacking spectrum, Aaron Rodgers had his best night yet for the Jets, rushing for 281 yards and two touchdowns.
He also added 18 rushing yards as he continues to look improved after the Achilles injury he suffered in Week 1 of last year.
