Crystal Palace boss Patrick Vieira has reportedly sacked first-team manager Shaun Derry in a row for “exceeding his role” after he was caught repeatedly berating players.
The former Arsenal midfielder confirmed earlier this week that it was his decision to sack Derry from his role as Eagles first-team manager, but declined to go into details.
But now the athletic has revealed why the relationship between Vieira and Derry broke down, and it goes back to October, when Palace suffered a 3-0 loss to Everton.
The Frenchman entered the dressing room to find his first-team manager Derry berating the players after their dismal performance at Goodison Park.
Derry’s comments focused on passion and playing proudly for the Palace badge, but the problem is that such displays of passion are not Vieira’s style, and worse, it wasn’t the only time it’s happened.

Vieira is known for having a calmer approach with his players and therefore it became a personality clash, not to say a soft touch, as he is a very disciplined coach.
However, the Palace manager refused to explain Derry’s sacking when questioned by the media ahead of their clash with Manchester United this afternoon.
“This is the decision I made,” Vieira said. I can confirm that he is not part of the staff.
I don’t want to go into details, but of course he was an important figure, he played (for the club), he was the captain here.

I don’t want to go into details. He has been good with this club.
Former Notts County and Cambridge United manager Derry declined to comment on the matter, when asked by The Athletic.
Palace will now focus on taking on United and searching for a new first-team manager in the coming weeks.
Derry, who represented Palace for six years as a player over two seasons, was promoted to the first team shortly after Vieira arrived at Selhurst Park after initially rejoining the club as part of the academy coaching staff in 2019.
