Patrick Vieira believes any explanation or apology from football authorities after Chelsea defender Thiago Silva escaped a red card against Crystal Palace would be futile.

Palace was furious. Last man Silva was only shown a yellow card in the first half for an intentional handball that prevented Jordan Ayew from going towards goal.

Referee Chris Kavanagh’s decision was supported by VAR Stuart Attwell, who believed Ayew was far from goal and headed away from the goal when he picked up the ball after expropriating Silva.

Vieira was fined for his protests during the match and kept his true thoughts to himself after the match to avoid further penalties.

Asked if he would try to talk to authorities about the incident, the Crystal Palace manager said: “It thinks it is too late. There’s no point in explaining or apologizing for the decision. There is no point.

“I’m not going to talk to the PL about it. I’ll focus on what’s happening on the pitch and the way we want to play the game and the way we win football matches.”

Patrick Vieira felt his side was denied the advantage by the VAR that did not intervene properly

Palace chairman Steve Parish isn’t worried about expressing his anger, taking to Twitter, saying: ‘Frankly, what’s the point of the VAR we chop and change every week what it does what it thinks.

‘The VAR should certainly consider that a red but not a ‘obvious’ fault! Even if they aren’t dogs [denial of a goalscoring opportunity] what it is that he deliberately hands ball twice, one on which we play so two yellows!’

Vieira added: “This is something I will talk to him about.”
