Patrick Morie Bannah, Jonathan Zahinda: Afrobeat music producer and another man are caught ‘red-handed’ raping a 15-year-old girl at Adelaide house party – as the pair learn their fate in court
An award-winning Afrobeat producer and another man have been found guilty of sexually assaulting a 15-year-old girl at a party.
Patrick Morie Bannah, 28, and Jonathan Zahinda, 26, were found guilty of raping the drunk girl by an Adelaide District Court jury on Wednesday.
Bannah, commonly known by his stage name ConCcoins, was also found guilty of attempted rape.
Zahinda faces additional punishment for her attempt to discourage a witness.
The court heard both men attended an 18th birthday party at an Airbnb in Adelaide in October 2020 where they assaulted the teenager.

Prosecutor Ahura Kalali told the court the teenager drank alcohol for the first time at the party and used cannabis before going to the bedroom.
Bannah followed the 15-year-old into the room and touched her vagina while asking him to ‘stop’. Messenger reports.
The court heard the teenager had tried to push Bannah away but did not have the strength to do so.
He then assaulted the victim again before leaving the room.
Zahinda, who knew the host of the party – a friend of the victim, entered the room later that evening and raped the young girl.
The court heard the victim’s boyfriend caught Zahinda red-handed in her bed and shouted at him: ‘Stop, she’s only fifteen’.
Lawyer Kalali said: ‘She will tell you that she was angry and shouted at him, told him “f**k off” and he got off her, onto the ground and grabbed his clothes and headed out of the apartment.’
South Australia Police investigated the incident and Zahinda texted the 15-year-old.
“The message was quite long, but it was something like ‘drop the charges,'” Kalali said.
Both men denied assaulting the girl.

Bannah’s lawyer, Michelle Barnes, had argued that the musician’s description of the victim on the night of the attack did not match what he was wearing.
The court heard that his tattoo sleeve, which the teenager identified, was believed to have been hidden under his jacket and that he was wearing a black T-shirt while the victim described a white button-up.
Ms Barnes argued that the 15-year-old could have looked at Bannah’s Instagram shortly after the attack and influenced her memories.
“From that moment on, in her mind, that is the man she saw at the party,” she said.
Zahinda’s lawyer, Christopher Allen, argued that the party host only knew Zahinda in passing and would have only seen the rapist for a few seconds after the attack, and thus could have mistaken his identity.
However, the lawyers did little to convince the jury who found the couple guilty of raping the young girl.
Bannah and Zahinda were granted bail and will appear in court again next month.
