Sports memorabilia enthusiasts apparently think Patrick Mahomes II has a future in the NFL.
As if his three Super Bowl wins, two MVP awards and a $477 million contract weren’t enough, the Kansas City Chiefs quarterback’s rookie card sold for a whopping $173,000 at auction.
According to Goldin Auctions, the card not only features Mahomes’ signature, but also a game-worn patch featuring a portion of the Chiefs’ Lamar Hunt memorial emblem.
The card received a perfect PSA score of 9 and the signature score was 10.
The Panini card is one of ten in existence, giving the anonymous buyer a great chance of increasing the value of his investment.

A similar card sold for an NFL record $4.3 million in 2021, though it was the only version in the set, making it an even rarer item.
Additionally, the more valuable card would also have benefited from a slightly different shirt badge.
While the most recent sale included a portion of the patch honoring late owner Lamar Hunt, the card that sold for $4.3 million in 2021 had the more recognizable NFL patch sewn onto all league jerseys.
Of course, Mahomes hadn’t even played when his rookie card was issued in 2017.
After a solid career at Texas Tech, Mahomes was drafted 10th overall by the Chiefs in 2017, then spent a year on the bench behind starter Alex Smith, who left for Washington in 2018.
Since then, the Chiefs have won four Super Bowls with Mahomes, and this season he is looking to win a record third consecutive Super Bowl.
