Patrick Mahomes couldn’t resist the opportunity to mock good friend Travis Kelce when discussing the age of the Kansas City Chiefs’ locker room.
Mahomes and Kelce won their third Super Bowl together last season, with the pair inspiring Kansas City’s overtime victory against the San Francisco 49ers in Las Vegas.
As two of the Chiefs’ most important players, they have won three championships in five years, with the last two coming in consecutive seasons.
Now Mahomes has his sights set on next season, as the Super Bowl champions aim to become the first team in NFL history to achieve a three-peat.
And while emphasizing that they are still a young team for the most part, the Chiefs quarterback took a playful swipe at Kelce, 34, for being one of the locker room’s elder statesmen.

Mahomes joked that his old teammate is now one of the oldest players on the team
He did so while speaking out about new wide receiver Marquise Brown, who signed last week
“We’re trying to build that here and we believe we’ve started it and we want to continue it,” Mahomes said. “We still have a young team… except for Trav.”
Kelce is the second oldest player on Kansas City’s roster, behind 34-year-old James Winchester, who was born two months earlier.
The legendary tight end nevertheless remains at the top of his game after delivering pivotal performances during another Chiefs postseason run to the Super Bowl.
Next season, Kelce and Mahomes will play alongside a new wide receiver in Marquise Brown, who signed a one-year deal last week after leaving the Arizona Cardinals.
At this weekend’s 101 Awards in Missouri, Mahomes said he was “already impressed with how hungry (Brown) has been” and that “you can tell he wants to win.”
‘It’s clear he wants to do good and everyone wants to do good. But you can tell he wants to be part of something special, of greatness.”
After mocking Kelce, he added, “If we can keep building this with a lot of people hungry and wanting to win, we can keep this thing going.”
