On a day that was promising for the Kansas City Chiefs, quarterback Patrick Mahomes had a disastrous outing against the Las Vegas Raiders.
On the first play after a punt, Mahomes attempted to receive a handoff after taking a direct pass on running back Isaiah Pacheco.
Mahomes struggled in transition and the ball was fumbled, leading to a recovery by the Raiders defense, who picked up the ball and routed it into the end zone for a touchdown to take a 9–7 lead.
The next play for the Chiefs, Mahomes made another unforced error.
He threw a telegraphed, undersized pass directly into the hands of Raiders cornerback Jack Jones – who went untouched into the end zone to extend the Chiefs' suffering to a 17-7 score.

Those two blunders were just the icing on the cake of a terrible sundae that was the first half of Mahomes' production.
He completed 13 of 21 passes for just 97 and no touchdowns as the Chiefs offense struggled to move the ball forward.
While Las Vegas also wasn't good at running their offense (totaling 95 yards in the first half), they also had two fewer drives to work with.
