Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes admitted his emotions got the better of him during an on-field meltdown during and after Sunday's loss to the Buffalo Bills.
“I think it's the pressure to be a good person,” Mahomes said Wednesday. “I try to act in such a way that I'm a good role model because I've looked up to the guys that have been on this stage since I was a little kid running around the locker room.”
“I'm just trying to be a good person,” Mahomes continued. “Of course I care, so my emotions were shown on the football field, which was shown in a good way, but obviously that wasn't a good way.”
“But at the end of the day, I'm just trying to be the best person I can be,” Mahomes said. “The face of the franchise, NFL stuff, that's going to come and go. But if I can show who I am every day and be an example, then I want to do that when my career is over.'
In his career, Mahomes has usually stayed away from public outbursts, even when things on the field didn't go his way. Still, the final moments and aftermath of Sunday's loss to Buffalo were a clear exception.

Mahomes was visibly angry and frustrated because the officials called Kadarius Toney an offensive offside penalty after what would have been the go-ahead goal with less than two minutes remaining.
He was seen slamming his helmet and during what is usually a cordial handshake with opposing quarterback Josh Allen, he instead moaned about what he felt was a “f****ng terrible” refereeing call.
Following the incident, the NFL MVP has yet to be fined for his actions or post-game comments directed at the officials.
Mahomes has been in the NFL since 2017, after the Chiefs drafted him No. 10 overall out of Texas Tech.
After the Chiefs traded Alex Smith to Washington in 2018, Mahomes has been Kansas City's starting quarterback ever since.
In his first year as a starter, he also won the NFL's MVP Award, and since then, Mahomes has been considered one of the best in the league.
